How to Use Focus Options on a Canon XH A1

  1. Step 1

Choose which focus option you wish to use. With the XH-A1 you have two primary focus options: Manual and Autofocus.

  2. Step 2

Choose Manual focusing, set the focus mode switch to "M". Focusing will be done with the camera len's focus ring. Turn it to bring in a sharp picture. Within the Manual mode you can select the options of "peaking." which emphasizes the outlines of the subject, and "Magnifying," which slightly enlarges the subject you are focusing on. Both of these options are enabled by pressing the appropriate button on the control panel.

  3. Step 3

Engage Autofocus, set the focus mode switch to "AF." Focusing occurs automatically as your subjects move and you zoom in and out. You have two different Autofocus options available. "Instant AF" focuses quickly -- useful for bright or low-light situations, and "Normal AF" focuses at a more stable speed -- suitable for regular lighting.

  4. Step 4

Experiment with the different focus modes to see which gives you the best results for your needs.
