Avoid crunchy foods in excess amounts. Foods like ice, hard candy or any other types of food may damage your dentures. If you eat hard foods on a daily basis and if you damage your dentures you could pay serious money to get them fixed. It is recommended that you treat your dentures to foods of a slightly softer base in order to preserve the life of your dentures. Foods like cereal, chips, carrots and other not so hard foods are fine to eat with your dentures.

Clean your dentures daily. It is necessary for you to brush and rinse your dentures every day as you would with natural teeth. Not brushing and rinsing your teeth on a daily basis can cause stains and bacteria to develop in your dentures. It is recommended that you brush and rinse your dentures daily. Also, clean all the denture adhesive from them at least once daily. This is typically done right before you go to bed at night.

Care for your dentures when not being worn. When your dentures are not being worn, such as when you go to bed at night, there is a proper way to care for them. When you go to bed each night you should take your dentures off and store them in a moist place, like a denture cleaner soaking solution, over night. Not placing your dentures in a moist area can cause them to dry out and loose shape. If you have metal attachments to your dentures, however, you should ask your dental professional about caring for this type of denture.

Tips & Warnings

  • Dentures cost a lot of money and you don't want to mess them up or ruin them. Ask your dentist if you have any further questions about denture care.
