Chicken and Dumplings are a homemade favorite, and coming from the south, it was always on our menu. this old fashioned recipe brings that down home cooking to you and your family! Remember...old fashioned recipes are always the best! Does this Spark an idea?

Things You'll Need

  • 2-3 lbs. chicken pieces
  • Salt
  • 2 C Flour
  • 2 tsp. Baking powder
  • 1 tsp. Salt
  • 1/3 C Shortening
  • 1/2 C Milk

Instructions

    • 1

      Cover chicken with water & add salt. Simmer until tender. Remove. Sift flour, baking powder & salt. Cut in shortening. Add milk to make stiff dough.

      Roll until thin & cut into 1-inch squares or 1 to 1-1/2 inch strips or diamonds. Sprinkle lightly with flour & drop into boiling chicken stock.

      Cover tightly & boil gently for 30-40 minutes. Add prepared chicken & continue to cook until chicken is hot.
      Serves: 8-10.
