With Father's Day just around the corner you may be pondering the age old question, "what to get dad?". Take a look at my steps to get some tips and pointers on choosing the best gift out there.
First you will need to think about your dad. It seems often people don't take the time to do this simple step and end up buying a tie, or cologne, or golf balls. Once you really think about your dad if these are things he will really like then by all means buy them. If your dad is anything like my dad he will not like these things.
Step2
Next you will need to determine your budget. Let's start out and say you have no money. This is not a bad thing, you can still call your dad and tell him you love him. This may be the best gift he gets. You could also go sentimental and find an old touching picture of the two of you. Have it blown up and turned black and white. If you can't do this on your home computer most places like Staple or Office Depot will do it for less than $1.00. If you can come up with another dollar have it framed. You can find frames for a lot less at dollar stores or thrift stores. These frames are often as good as any you could buy for more money.
Step3
If you have more money to spend this can be good also. Think about your dad's interests and hobbies. Think if he has mentioned he needs something. I would say spending $50 or less is a good amount to spend on a gift. If you want to spend more you definitely can but $50 can get a good gift. Don't buy something because you love it. This doesn't always mean that he will. You might find yourself disappointed when you find your Father's Day gift in the back of the coat closet.
Step4
If you are still really stumped on what to get here are some fail safe suggestions for any guy. Buy a gift card. whether it be for a restaurants or to a store you know he likes gift cards are a great gift. People really do usually like to pick out a gift for themselves, especially guys. Also thousands of places offer gift cards now for clothing, gas, entertainment whatever you can think of. Another great option could be to get them tickets to a concert. A lot of older bands are getting back together and are on tour now.
Step5
Lastly make sure with any gift to include a card. The card doesn't have to be store bought. You can just jot down on a piece of lined paper if that's all you have. Whatever you do make sure to let your dad know your thoughts and how you feel. You never know how much time anyone has together so make your thoughts known, and have a great Father's Day!!!
Tips & Warnings
If you and your father aren't speaking Father's Day is a great opportunity to end the silence. You can at least send a card letting him know why you hate him. Often people don't even know why others are mad at them.
