How to Draw Emo Cartoons
Before you even grab a pencil, it’s essential to understand the lonely, tortured, misunderstood world you are about to create. Emo cartoons are less about laughter and more about deep, often dark emotions.

Developing The Perfect Emo Character
-
1
Decide what type of character you’d like to draw. Keep your illustrations true to the look of the emo crowd like Steve Emond’s Emo Boy or develop more ambiguously-shaped characters like Jeff Thomas’s Pon & Zi.
-
2
Assign emo-like traits to your cartoon hero. Channel the sullen emo attitude through your pencil by assigning your character strong feelings of despair, self-doubt and inadequacy. For example your character might crush on a girl, but he believes his love will go unrequited.

3
Capture the emo-look by studying up on emo style. If your emo cartoon is drawn to a human likeness clothe your heroine in skinny jeans and a hoodie. Draw on heavy eyeliner. If your character is non-human add in emo symbols like a broken heart or a skull and cross bones.
-
4
Observe emo mannerisms and incorporate them into your work. Your woeful character should look down and avert his eyes to illuminate his shy and doubtful ways.
