How to Make Homemade Suet

Very simple recipe for feeding birds during the winter.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • 1 c. lard (not shortening)
  • 1 c. crunchy peanut butter
  • 3 c. cornmeal
  • 1 c. unbleached flour
  • 1-2 c. birdseed
  1. Step 1

    Melt lard and peanut butter in microwave oven.

  2. Step 2

    Add remaining ingredients and mix well.

  3. Step 3

    Press into a cake for a suet basket or may be pressed into holes drilled in a small log.

  4. Step 4

    May be used year round but tends to melt and become rancid in temperatures above 70 degree Fahrenheit.

Tips & Warnings
  • May be frozen until ready to use.
  • Do not use shortening.
  • Will become rancid in warmer temperatures.
