Step 1
Sign up with paid online survey sites - many of them recruit participants for market research companies to conduct paid focus groups. Most of the focus groups are conducted online or via telephone, sometimes even off-line focus groups. For example, I got a offline focus groups opportunity through survey spot a couple of years ago. To find paid online survey sites, check out one of the good and free paid survey directory and information sites such as mysurvey123.com.

Step 2
Look for local market research companies and join their database. They might have on site focus groups (focus groups conducted at their local offices or facilities). Please note that only a limited number of cities have local market research companies and such "lucky" cities are (not limited to): Atlanta, Austin, Bay Area, Boston, Chicago, Dallas, Denver, Houston, Las Vegas, Los Angeles, Miami, Minneapolis, New York, Philadelphia, Phoenix, San Diego, San Francisco, Seattle.
-
Step 3
Sometimes market research companies post local or nation wide focus groups opportunities on Craigslist - just type "focus group" in the search term and only search in "title". This is also a way to find out if there is a local market research company in your city. When searching Craigslist, be aware of scams and only response ads from reputable legitimate market research companies.
-
Step 4
Visit a good paid survey information site and forum (such as mysurvey123.com) frequently, since the webmaster and members of those sites post ongoing and current focus groups opportunities all the time to give each other a heads up.
