Poetry is a wonderful way to express feelings. A cinquain poem allows a description of a person or object. So many wonderful thoughts of our fathers can be used to create wonderful cinquains. Kids love cinquains because they don't have to make the words rhyme.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • pencil or colored markers
  • practice paper
  • stationary or fancy paper
  1. Step 1
     

    Write a word of what your poem will be about (the subject).

  2. Step 2
     

    Write two words that describe your subject.

  3. Step 3
     

    Write three action words that describe something your subject does.

  4. Step 4
     

    One or two words that rename what your poem is about (a synonym).

  5. Step 5
     

    Write a phrase that describes something else about your subject.

Tips & Warnings
  • A true cinquain has a format for syllables in each line
  • Line 1: 1 word title (noun) 2 syllables Line 2: 2 descriptive words (adjectives) 4 syllables
  • Line 3: words that express action 6 syllables
  • Line 4: words that express feeling 8 syllables
  • Line 5: 1 word (synonyms or reference to title in line 1) 2 syllables
