Becoming an effective leader and practicing good and effective leadership takes much forethought and hard work. Your ultimate goal is to create a positive environment for your team and organization in order to effectively implement your organization's mission and vision in line with it's core values. As you implement and follow these ten commitments of leadership, you will be well on your way to a positive leadership experience for yourself and your team or organization.

  1. Step 1

    Commitment of Leadership #1: Search for challenging opportunities to change, grow, innovate, and improve.

  2. Step 2

    Commitment of Leadership #2: Experiment, take risks, and learn from the accompanying mistakes.

  3. Step 3

    Commitment of Leadership #3: Envision an uplifting and ennobling future.

  4. Step 4

    Commitment of Leadership #4: Enlist others in a common vision by appealing to their values, interests, hopes, and dreams.

  5. Step 5

    Commitment of Leadership #5: Foster collaboration by promoting cooperative goals and building trust.

  6. Step 6

    Commitment of Leadership #6: Strengthen others by sharing information and power and increasing their discretion and visibility.

  7. Step 7

    Commitment of Leadership #7: Set an example for others by behaving in ways that are consistent with your stated values.

  8. Step 8

    Commitment of Leadership #8: Plan small wins that promote consistent progress and build commitment.

  9. Step 9

    Commitment of Leadership #9: Recognize individual contributions to the success of every project.

  10. Step 10

    Commitment of Leadership #10: Celebrate team accomplishments regularly.
