This is a recipe for making candied sweet potatoes that have become a Thanksgiving tradition for my family.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • 6 medium sweet potatoes
  • 1/4 cup butter
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1/3 cup maple syrup
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/8 teaspoon pepper
  • 1/4 cup pecan halves (optional)
  1. Step 1

Peel the sweet potatoes and cut into small pieces.

  2. Step 2

Put the potatoes in a pot and add enough water to cover them. Bring to boil.

  3. Step 3

Cook approximately 20 minutes or until the potatoes feel soft when stuck with a fork. Cooking time will vary depending on the size of the pieces.

  4. Step 4

Make the sauce: In a small sauce pan add butter and melt.

  5. Step 5

Add the rest of the ingredients to the saucepan. Bring to a boil and then reduce the temperature to low

  6. Step 6

Cook, stirring constantly, until mixture is clear and thick – about two minutes

  7. Step 7

After the sweet potatoes are cooked, drain them and put them in a bowl.

  8. Step 8

Pour the sauce over the potatoes. Sprinkle the pecans on top.
