How to Stop a Rocking Chair from Sliding

It is very helpful to keep your old rocking chair in the corner of the bedroom. It can be quite handy on a sleepless night, when you can rock yourself until you fall asleep. Make sure that you rock slowly to stop a rocking chair from sliding on a floor that is not carpeted.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Rocking Chair
  • Felt strips
  • Heavy glue
  1. Step 1

Buy two strips of felt. This can usually be bought at any craft store. Make sure that the felt is thin and soft. Get two strips of felt, one for each rocking area to keep a rocking chair from sliding.

  2. Step 2

Use a scissors to cut the felt. Take a tape measure, or a ruler and measure the felt to be a little smaller than the bottom of the rocking rails. This will make sure the felt is not noticed and will not end up with broken edges and make it unsightly.

  3. Step 3

Find glue that is heavy duty, so it will paste the strips to the chair on the bottom. This felt when glued on will stop a rocking chair from sliding when it is not sitting on a carpet.

  4. Step 4

Do not use the rocker until the next day. It will take that much time to completely dry. This method is much less expensive than buying a new chair.

Tips & Warnings
  • Take care if you find the chair rocking and moving. You could hit a wall or rock into a mirror.
