How to Throw Great Baby Showers
Throwing a baby shower is a fun experience for the host, guests and parents-to-be. The baby shower is a chance for the parents to receive gifts for their baby as well as enjoy a celebration of the pending birth. If you have been chosen to host a baby shower for a friend or loved one, make it an enjoyable and memorable occasion by planning ahead using your imagination when deciding on the various elements of this important occasion.

1
Choose a baby shower theme if the mommy-to-be has not already chosen one. The theme may be centered around the parents' nursery theme, using greens and yellows if they do not know the sex of the baby or incorporating some of the mommy-to-be's favorite things like butterflies or a cartoon character. For a twin baby shower, the "two peas in a pod" theme works great with supplies that are easy to find at party supply stores.

2
Purchase invitations for the baby shower or make them yourself. It helps to have the invitations reflect the theme you have chosen for the shower. Write the pertinent information on the invitations such as the location, date, time and RSVP contact information. Include where the parents are registered and if lunch, drinks or snacks will be served. If you have decided on a co-ed shower, write that on the invitation as well.

3
Decide on a venue for the baby shower and plan decorations accordingly. If you are expecting a lot of guests, you can have the shower at a local park or community center. When throwing a shower in your home, you will have more options of how to decorate while at a public space, you may only have room for balloons and table covers. Check your local party supply store for decorations that match your baby shower theme.

4
Decide which food, drinks, snacks and desserts you want to serve at the baby shower. For a lunch shower, finger sandwiches, salad and fruit are acceptable choices. If the shower is later in the afternoon, you may serve snacks and dessert that includes the cake. For the baby shower cake, have it personalized with the baby's name if you know it or the parents-to-be's names. Serve a variety of beverages such as juice, water, milk, coffee, tea and soft drinks.
-
5
Plan a few different games to play at the baby shower and offer prizes for each game. Many books and Internet sites offer games which are appropriate for baby showers such as the "baby bottle drinking game" where each guest drinks a beverage out of a baby bottle and whoever finishes first, wins a prize.
-
6
Give party favors to each guest as a thank-you and a way for them to remember the shower. The favors may be store-bought such as scented candles or handmade such as baked goods. To make the party favor special, personalize it with the baby's name and due date or the date of the baby shower. For instance, if you are giving each guest a jarred candle, include a card with the parents' names, baby's name, due date and a small thank-you for coming to the shower.
