If someone is lying in front of you, lifeless; their heart has ceased beating, their lungs have taken their last breath, and now it is only you that stands between precious life and uncertainty of death, will you know what to do? Follow these simple guidelines and perhaps save a life; give someone the opportunity to continue experiencing the blissful day to day that is life.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderate

Things You’ll Need:

  • Yourself
  • Quit Wit
  • A deep breath of life giving air.
Step1
Approach your fallen comrade and place your hand upon their shoulder, giving them a firm shake, ensuring they are not conscious. Shout at them, don't feel mean for yelling in their ear, chances are they cannot hear you.
Step2
Place your ear next to their mouth as you gaze down upon their lifeless body. Do you see the chest moving? Are they breathing? Can you feel their breaths? No you cannot. Immediately give them two breaths, making sure to cock their head back so as to get in good ventilation. You should see their chest rise with your breaths. Now check their pulse by using your pointer and middle finger and placing it upon the carotid artery. Is their heat beating. No. This is because, THEY ARE DEAD. Place the heal of one hand between their nipple line, place your other hand on top of that hand, intertwining your fingers. Now, compress the chest. At first you will feel and hear the uncomfortable crackling of ribs and cartilage, but do not fret, they are dead, and they cannot feel this, that which would be excruciating if they were alive. Now continue doing THIRTY, yes, THIRTY compressions.
Step3
After this first round of breaths and compressions, repeat, checking for pulse and breaths every minute. At this point you should have contacted someone, shouted for help, or gotten an aid car on the way. As soon as professionals arrive, you will be relieved. Good job. You have done your part. Perhaps this person will make it, perhaps they won't, but tonight, when you lie down in bed with the sound of cracking ribs echoing through your mind, remember, you did your best.
