1
Send out invitations to your game night, online or by phone. This frees you from having to buy and mail invitations.
-
2
Take an inventory of your board games. Make sure that you have a good variety of interactive games. Games in which you have to shout out clues or work in teams work better than quiet board games for a game night. If you don't have enough games, ask your friends to bring some of theirs.

Make the night a potluck. If everybody brings a different type of snack, that takes the financial pressure off you. Many people like to bring a dessert or bottle of wine anyway when visiting someone's home. Keep track in advance of who will bring what to avoid duplication.

Have plenty of space available if you plan a large game night. Some board games take up almost all of the table.

Tips & Warnings
Don't just limit your night to classic games. Many video games are good for parties, and a lot of electronic trivia games can be played in teams.
Borrow folding chairs in advance if you do not have adequate seating.
Organize the night so guests have time before and after game play to socialize. Give people time to arrive late. Schedule snack breaks in between rounds.
Make sure you have the rules for each game handy. Some people get very involved in winning games, and you don't want any arguments over rules to make your party awkward.
