  1. How to Eliminate Distraction When Studying

    • 1

Be realistic. If you're exhausted, busy or emotionally stressed, you're not going to accomplish much. If you're preparing for a test, give yourself enough time so that you can study at an later time if you have to.

    • 2

Finish up all of your assorted loose end tasks. The less time you spend thinking about them, the more time you'll spend actually studying.

    • 3

Create a studying timeline for yourself. By plotting out how you're going to study, what, and when, you'll stay organized and on task.

    • 4

If it keeps you on-task, ask a classmate to study with you. This should be someone you aren't extremely friendly with. The point is to focus and motivate, not socialize.

    • 5

Wherever you are that is causing you distraction, get away from it. By changing your environment, you'll be able to avoid typical distractions and get more done.

    • 6

Once you're away from your distraction zone, turn off everything that causes you distraction. If you're going to the library, don't bring your computer if you don't absolutely have to. Leave your cell phone at home. Don't be in a room with a television. If your mind tends to wander, use an iPod with dull music, but don't allow yourself to be around anything that can turn your focus away from your books.

    • 7

Sit in a rigid chair. Studying in a soft, comfortable chair can make you too relaxed and may make you lethargic.

    • 8

Bring easy to eat snacks and beverages with you. Procrastinators will find any reason to step away from studying, so don't allow yourself reasons.

    • 9

Take regularly scheduled breaks. Once an hour get up and stretch, walk around and get some fresh air. Once every three hours, reward yourself with a half hour break to do whatever you want. Remember to get back on time, though!

    • 10

Put your mind to it and you can do it!

Tips & Warnings

  • It's easy to ignore all of these tips and do whatever feels comfortable, but sometimes studying just can't be fun. Buckling down can allow you more time for fun.
