How to Make a Clay Coil Bowl

  1. Step 1

Roll out a long roll of clay, keeping it about as thick as a roll of chapstick. This is your rope.

  2. Step 2

Coil your rope round and round on top of itself, creating your desired shape.

  3. Step 3

Leave the coils showing, or smooth the bowl down, depending on your preference.

  4. Step 4

Add Dextrine to the surface of your bowl. This will cause the clay to harden without the necessity of firing it in a kiln.

  5. Step 5

    Paint as desired.

Tips & Warnings
  • You may want to use enamel instead of paint.
  • Once the bowl is finished, be careful! It will always be fragile.
