How to Win Landscape Photo Contests

  1. Step 1

Research the various opportunities for earning landscape photography honors. Art groups, photography websites and environmental business-to-business publications, for example, often host nature image contests.

  2. Step 2

Review the landscape work of renowned photographers. Determine your likes and dislikes, what works and what does not.

  3. Step 3

Purchase, rent or borrow--depending on your skill level and seriosness in the pursuit of photography--equipment for snapping landscape shots. Popular choices include digital cameras, wide-angle lenses, tripods, small apertures and format systems.

  4. Step 4

Experiment with various landscapes, lighting patterns and perspectives (i.e., close up or far away, looking downward or looking upward). Use color to your advantage.

  5. Step 5

    Submit photos for contest consideration.

Tips & Warnings
  • Do not set out to imitate the works of great photographers. Use their images as a source of learning and inspiration, not as a limiting resource.
  • Pack photography equipment properly and carefully when traveling into different landscapes.
