How to Appliqué Children's' Clothing

Appliquéing children's clothing is fun and rewarding. You can applique T-shirts, shorts, caps, tote bags and even canvas shoes. Children will love the animal prints and their favorite TV characters. Here's how to applique a T-shirt and tote bag.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

• T-Shirt
• Tote bag
• Fabric paints
• Wonder Under
• Themed fabric, 1/2 yard
• Iron
• Scissors

1. 
   Ocean Scene

   Wash, dry and iron T-shirt before working on it.

2. 
   Sponge Bob

   Cut 1/2 yard of Wonder Under. Iron the Wonder Under to your 1/2-yard of fabric. (Follow directions on the Wonder Under package.) Cut in and out of sections with the theme you picked.

3. Take a themed cut-out and place it on your T-shirt. Press it with the iron. Wait until it cools.

4. Take your paint bottle and shake it. Paint around the edges of your theme, using light pressure. Paint inside the theme, following lines. Let paint dry. (Follow directions on bottle.)

5. Repeat to decorate tote bag.

Tips & Warnings

• The less fabric you use on a T-shirt, the better.
• Start painting from the top of the T-shirt, to avoid smearing.
• Don't make your appliqué pieces too big, or they might make your T-shirt too heavy.
