How to Become a Social Care Worker in the UK
Being a social care worker involves a person who desires to help others in the community and work with medical professionals such as doctors, nurses, teachers, lawyers and more. A social care worker does not require training, however, as one works in the field they are able to gain experience. To work in Social Work it requires that an individual needs to be able to work in all settings which includes residential, field, day, domiciliary, health care, and education. The Social Work field also includes voluntary, statutory, and private sectors. There are several options available to get into the Social Care and Social Worker career. The core skills that are required for Social Workers have been defined as including problem solving skills, communication skills, ability work well with others, ICT and Numerical skills, and the skills in personal and professional development.

Go through the required criminal check before starting the job position.

Take the training course. The training course will usually begin in the first twelve weeks within the start of a new job.

Gain NVQ (National Vocational Qualifications) through your training course.

Look for work through the New Deal program. The New Deal program is a government program that is focused on giving unemployed people help with finding work.

Obtain a Social Work degree if you desire to further your career in social work. They have full-time, part-time, and distance learning courses available.

To be in the Social Work field, you would need to have a three year undergraduate honor degree or a two year Masters degree in social work. The degree has to be approved by the GSCC (General Social Care Council).

Complete the courses and spend a minimum of at least 200 days in practice settings. This helps to gain experience into the field.

Look for more opportunities to volunteer your time as this does help with obtaining your degree. These opportunities can be found at the university's career center or online.

Remember to be a Social Worker, you will study in law, communication skills, mental health, disability, working in partnerships, assessment, planning, intervention, review, human growth and development.

Register with the GSCC (General Social Care Council) once you have been qualified. The previous qualifications consist of obtaining a diploma will be considered as valid.
