How to Drive a Dune Buggy
"In the beginning it was fun. In the end, it was all for fun. And in between is where it tickles most." That’s the way driving a dune buggy should feel. Learning how to drive a dune buggy is easy too, and anyone, including a child can learn. A dune buggy is just a recreational vehicle, and as such it is very easy to drive. It’s just like a small car, like a Volkswagen with no sides, no roof, and big huge wheels that can go through sand dunes, and on beaches. Actually a dune buggy is an adapted car engine mounted on an open chassis (meaning no doors, and no roof). Because there are no roads and a dune buggy is made for sand.

How to Drive a Dune Buggy
-
1
Turn the ignition key and start the dune buggy.
-
2
Accelerate. You have an accelerator and a brake, so you can start by accelerating. Go slow at first until you are familiar with the dune buggy. Some are made with very small engines. A 50 cc engine is about the size used in a small motor scooter. Other dune buggies are equipped with small car engines, so go slow until you are sure of the vehicle.

3
Steer. The steering wheel allows you to turn left or right. In the beginning it will seem strange to be traveling on surfaces that are not roads.
-
4
Turn right and left. When you get into a stretch of vegetation or area that you don’t really want to drive through, slow down as you would in a normal car.
-
5
Don’t turn hard until ready. While you are getting used to the dune buggy avoid making hard turns as this can turn your vehicle over. You can right it easily, but do not take the chance of injuring yourself or your passengers.

Dune buggies are very dangerous and a driver must be an adult or under adult supervision at all times. Do not ruin beach vegetation.
