Your knees take a lot of abuse. They carry much of your body weight, and after years of wear and tear they can give out on you. You can take steps to avoid knee injuries and help your knees stay healthy longer.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Abstain for excessive high-impact exercise. Running, tennis, or contact sports such as football can be very hard on your knees and make you susceptible to injuries.

  2. Step 2

Opt for low-impact exercise that is easier on your knees. Some great choices include swimming and other water sports, biking, or yoga.

  3. Step 3

Stretch and warm up before any exercise. This will help your muscles and tendons become stronger over time, making you less likely to injure your knees.

  4. Step 4

Maintain a healthy weight. Too much extra weight on your frame puts an extra strain on your knees, causing them to be more prone to injury.

  5. Step 5

Wear proper foot attire. Don't take long walks in a pair of flip-flops, or subject your feet and knees to nothing but high heels. Have your feet fitted with good shoes for the sports or exercises you will be performing.
