From Quick Guide: Internet & E-Commerce Jobs
Difficulty: Moderately Challenging
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Learn to avoid common grammar errors. Beware of run on sentences which can be fixed by breaking a sentence into two parts. Use proper capitalization. Always punctuate your sentences correctly. Spell words correctly every time. Also, be aware of homophones, which while they may be spelled correctly, may mean something completely different.

  2. Step 2

Take your power back from the spell checking program. Do not use your spell checker blindly. It will ignore many grammar errors. Spell check programs can also cause grammar errors that were not previously in your text and also miss homophone errors.

  3. Step 3

Research before writing. When content writers begin writing, they usually write from their own experience. Eventually however, you do run out of knowledge and will need to research articles before writing them. Lack of thorough research or knowledge will show because people who search to read articles generally have basic knowledge about the subject.

  4. Step 4

Format your article for easy readability. If you look at this article, and all other articles on EHow.com, you will notice that it is formatted to be easy to read. This is how web content articles should be written. The first sentence should summarize the paragraph. Paragraphs should be short and get to the point. Information should be easy to find. Readers should be able to scan the article for information they need.

  5. Step 5

Demand higher pay. Will demanding higher pay really make you a better web content writer? You had better believe it. Higher pay will allow you to write fewer articles in a day to get to your desired daily income goal. The means you will have more time to spend on each article for proofreading and editing. Writing for $5 an article may help you gain experience when you start. Still writing at that rate a year or two later will drive you out of business.

Tips & Warnings
  • Read the writers guidelines for any site you write for as rules and requirements will vary.

on 5/1/2009 I especially like no. 3, which tells us to do research before writing. You're right and people who read articles do have basic knowledge about the topic. They may want to find out something new. When a writer doesn't know his/her topic it shows and takes away from his/her credibility; their next article will probably be skipped.
