Step 1
If you are married and your spouse gets his insurance through his employer you may be able to add you on the plan. You could potentially save hundreds a month this way.
-
Step 2
If possible talk to the insurance agent you have through your current employer. Your insurance agent may be able to get you into a plan similar to your plan with your employer with a higher deductible.
-
Step 3
Talk with your friends who are self employed about good and bad experience they have had with self employment insurance.
-
Step 4
Call the billing department of your family doctor. This step is a must for individuals with health issues. They may not be able to tell you what companies the cheapest per a month, but they can say which insurance companies work best with payouts.
-
Step 5
Visit a web site they will give you multiple quotes on your health insurance based on your current health. Ehealthinsurance.com and healthinsurance.org are great places to start.
-
Step 6
Check out different professional clubs in your community and large clubs in your career field throughout the states. Many clubs offer self employment insurance plans at a discounted rate.

on 7/20/2008 Also try employer-of-record organizations, such as MBO Partners, http://www.mbopartners.com. Not only do they provide access to group health insurance benefits and retirement savings plans, they have very friendly and knowledgeable business managers that help with your back-office tasks, like invoicing clients.
