Summer's here and with climbing temperatures around the corner it is important to know the signs of heat stroke and what to do if you or someone you know starts to exhibit the signs of heat stroke.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions
  1. Step 1

    First know the signs of heat stroke:

    Dizziness/light headed
    Rapid heartbeat
    Excessive sweating
    Fainting/unconsciousness
    Nausea
    Irritability
    Rapid/shallow breathing
    Confusion

  2. Step 2
     

    Call 911 or emergency medical service. Seek medical attention immediately.

  3. Step 3
     

    Have the person drink cool water if possible.

  4. Step 4

    Spray the person with cool water.

  5. Step 5
     

    Fan the person or put them in direct air conditioner.

  6. Step 6

    Cover the person with damp sheets/towels.

  7. Step 7

    Reassure the person to try to calm or relax them and relieve their anxieties and stay with them until medical attention arrives.

Tips & Warnings
  • Know the signs of heat stroke and take steps to prevent it.
  • CALL 911 IMMEDIATELY IF YOU OR SOMEONE YOU KNOW IS EXHIBITING SIGNS OF HEATSTROKE.

on 6/13/2008 Also, remember to limit outdoor activities when the heat index is above 90F. Obviously this is a preventative measure not relevant to the article, but helpful...I hope. Good advice.
