Rugby is a combination of football and cricket and is gaining popularity in the United States. Rugby itself can be a complicated game to grasp, but the skills needed to play certain positions within the sport of rugby, including the position of the scrum half, can be learned by following just a few steps.

    Playing Scrumhalf in Rugby

  1. Step 1

    Know your positioning. When playing scrum half, you will be between the forwards and the backs in the middle of the field or the middle of the scrum.

  2. Step 2

    Be the center of the action. The scrum half handles the ball more than any other player and is involved in more aspects of the overall game than any other position.

  3. Step 3

    Be there first. A scrum half must be the first tackler in defense and must get the ball out to maintain movement.

  4. Step 4

    Get the ball in play. The scrum half is responsible for feeding the ball into the center of the scrum and collecting the ball afterwards.

  5. Step 5

    Communicate. In order to play scrum half in rugby, you must be able to control the tempo of the game as well as be able to effectively communicate with your teammates in order to win the game.

  6. Step 6

    Concentrate. A scrum half must make quick decisions throughout the entire game, especially during a scrum that will result in success for their team.

  7. Step 7

    Practice your skills. A scrum half must have good passing and handling skills, as you are the person who will be in control of the ball most of the time.
