Ever thought about making your own curtains? Many people think that just because they don't sew, they can't make curtains. But you can make your own inexpensive rustic curtains without a stitch in sight. Then you can proudly display your curtains and amaze your friends when you tell them you made them yourself.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Burlap, enough to cover your window
  • Tape measure
  • Fusible bonding web (adhesive for fabrics)
  • Iron
  • Tension curtain rod
  1. Step 1

Measure your window from inside the sill. Buy your fabric 6 inches longer than the window.

  2. Step 2

Unravel and pull out 5 strings from each side of the burlap to give the curtains a frayed look.

  3. Step 3

Fold down the material 6 inches from the top. For the edge of the material, cut a strip of the fusible bonding web long enough that it runs the width of the material.

  4. Step 4

Iron on the fusible bonding web to the edge of the material. Do this carefully, pressing the tape between the burlap until it adheres. Follow the instructions on the package of fusible bonding web for heat settings and time. You will now have a loop to insert the curtain rod.

  5. Step 5

Pull out 5 strands from the bottom of the burlap to complete the frayed look.

  6. Step 6

Put the curtain rod through the loop and hang according to the instructions on the curtain rod. Congratulations! You have just made your own curtain.

Tips & Warnings
  • Pull out more threads if you want more fringe on the ends.
  • You can pull threads from the middle of the bottom and the sides to create lines for a different look.
