How to Plan a Day of Horse Racing at Monmouth Park

Step1
Get directions. It is easy to get to Monmouth Park if you know where you are going. If you are driving, directions can be found on Monmouth Park’s website. However, if you would prefer to take the train, the New Jersey Transit’s North Jersey Coast Line has hourly service to Monmouth Park for your convenience.
Step2
Know how much money to bring. Admission for the Grandstand on normal racing days is inexpensive. Children under the age of 12 are free. Parking is also free.
Step3
Arrive on time. The gates open at 11:30 AM and it is recommended you arrive at this time if you would like to explore the grounds before the racing begins around 12:50 p.m.
Step4
Bring your sunglasses and sunblock. Monmouth Park has described itself as the "most beautiful racecourse in the world," and you will experience this first hand when you enjoy a horse race. You want to be prepared for sunny days on the Jersey shore.
Step5
Plan on eating. Monmouth Park has a variety of food options that you will want to sample while you are there. There are four restaurants, a room with several buffets set up and a picnic area with charcoal grills for you to enjoy with your family and friends.
Step6
Have fun. Once you arrive at Monmouth Park and are in your seats for the race, sit back and enjoy your surroundings. You are in the home of the Breeder’s Cup and the Belmont Stakes. Enjoy your day at the racetrack.

Tips & Warnings

  • If you haven’t decided on a specific day to go to Monmouth Park, Sundays are a good choice. Sunday is family fun day and there are several free activites for children including pony rides, clowns, face painting and even a bounce house.
