If you’ve ever spent any time in college, you already know how to write an academic report. What you might not know is that you can make money doing something you already know. College students across the country are looking for writers to do their term papers and book reports and to write outlines that they can use to create the final paper. Before you start making money by writing academic papers you need to do your research and find the right company.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • Sample papers
  • Computer
  • Internet access
  • Resume

Making Money Writing Academic Papers

Step1
Go through the papers you did in college and select at least two or three to use as a sample for perspective clients. It might be helpful to select papers from different areas or those that use different formatting and reference styles. This shows employers that you have a diverse background and are capable to covering more than one area or style.
Step2
Do a search on the internet for companies that hire academic writers. You might be surprised to learn just how many there are out there today. Choose those companies that have a nice looking website and have been around for several years.
Step3
Visit the WAHM forum (see resources below) or a similar forum devoted to freelance writers and ask questions of the companies you found. In some cases you may be able to search their archives to find any posts or threads devoted to the company. Pay particular attention to those companies that members have nice things to say about.
Step4
Send your sample papers and a copy of your resume to prospective employers. While you can market your skills to individual college students, it’s generally easier to write for one major company that college students know. Wait for the employer to respond and answer any questions they might have.
Step5
Write academic papers for the companies that hired you. You can expect to earn a wage based on the number of pages since most companies pay-per-page rather than the amount of work completed. Depending on your research and typing skills you may start earning a large salary right away.

Tips & Warnings

  • If you’ve lost your college papers, create a two to three page sample paper to use for potential employers. Most companies won’t hire a writer unless they can see a sample first.
  • By offering several samples you can double or triple your workload. In some cases the company may pigeonhole you to one topic based on your sample.
  • Be wary of any company based in a foreign location as they make take much longer to pay you for your work.
  • Keep in mind that plagiarism is a serious concern for college students. If you write a paper that’s been plagiarized and the student complains, you could be out of a job.
