This article will show you how to create and fill goodie bags that are sure to be remembered for years to come.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • Goodie bags
  • Candy
  • Toys
  • Children

Creating a Goodie Bag

Step1
Choose a theme. This is the first step in to deciding what should or should not go in your goodie bag. If your child's birthday party is a pirate party, for example, than you would want to add items to your goodie bag that center around pirate life. Some theme suggestions are: African safari, Barbie, cowboys and Indians, princess and her royal court, magician, animals of the sea, famous Bible characters, etc.
Step2
Buy goodie bags based on your theme. If your theme is pirates, you could buys some Pirates of the Caribbean goodie bags. If you can't find anything you like you can make your own. Just buy some brown paper lunch bags and print out an image of your theme off of the Internet and just paste it to the front of your bag. Even simpler, you could just draw a big X for x marks the spot.
Step3
Choose theme related candy to throw in to the bag. Chocolate gold coins would be perfect for a pirate party. If you are throwing an animal birthday party you would want to choose gummie bears or those sour patch worms--you get the idea. Don't neglect the candy part of the bag. Kids are going to expect it and they will be disappointed if they don't find any.
Step4
Buy some theme-related toys. Very often, you can find stickers or pencils with your theme all over it. A great place to buy theme-related toys is Oriental Trading Post. A fun toy to add for a pirate party are the fake stick on mustaches. They are a big hit with the kids too.
Step5
Make sure each kid gets the same amount of candy and toys in their bag. They will check and compare and you are going to get, "That's not fair, Suzy got three pieces of gum and I only got two." Some kids even fight over the colors. If you have a mini-kaleidoscope in your goodie bag for a science theme party you may have one blue, one green. Whatever color one kid has, you can be sure they are going to want the color their friend has. Some kids will swap nicely, but don't count on it. To be safe get all the same color.

Tips & Warnings

  • Hand out the goodie bags to the parents as the children leave the party. That way the children are less likely to get in to a fight about what is inside. They will also be less likely to leave parts of the bag behind.
  • Don't overstuff the bags. That just costs you extra money and the kids really won't appreciate it any more than a bag with a few quality theme related goodies inside them.
