Being your own best friend ensures that you will always have one person to whom you can turn, one person that will support you unconditionally-- yourself!

1
Make a conscious decision to be your own best friend. Look into the mirror and tell yourself, “I will always be there for you. I will never let you down.” Do this every day.
-
2
Believe in yourself. If the going gets rough, take a minute to tell yourself, “You can do this. You are strong and resourceful. You will get through this!”
-
-
3
Compliment yourself. Deliberately write down something you like about yourself each day in a notebook, and once a week read back over the list to give yourself a boost.
-
4
Treat yourself. Take yourself out for ice cream when you are blue, or buy yourself that book you have been wanting to read. Sometimes we get so caught up in others’ lives we forget to take time for ourselves.
-
5
Forgive yourself if you do make a wrong choice, and move on. Nobody’s perfect, and you wouldn’t hold a grudge towards your best friend, would you?

Tips & Warnings
If you have a daily minute with yourself to plan your day, and practice a mantra of self confidence and assurance, you will be well on your way to becoming your own best friend.
Don’t forget to cultivate other friends, as well. You may be your own best friend, but isolation can lead to depression and it’s healthy to be part of a circle of support, too.
