How to Promote Stem Cell Research

Stem cell researchers have categorized two types of mammalian stem cells: embryonic, found it blastocysts, and adult, found in adult tissues. Because stem cells can develop and transform into various specialized embryonic tissues, many medical experts and in the general population have proposed using stem cells in medical therapies--a controversial topic, as the destruction of a human embryo or therapeutic cloning is necessary to begin such a procedure.

How to Promote Stem Cell Research

1. The first step is to research stem cells; their potential use in the medical field and the arguments for and against proposed policies.

2. Form a clear, informed opinion before supporting either side of the stem cell research debate.

3. Join relevant support groups, sign petitions addressed to political leaders, spread the word in your community and wear apparel, if your decision is to support stem cell research.

4. Keep up with developments--scientific, legislative and otherwise--pertaining to stem cell research and tweak your support plan accordingly.

• Accept that other people's views on the debate will differ from your own. Share your side of the story with deterrents, but do not push too hard.
