Things You'll Need:
- Pool table
- Cue stick
- Cue ball
-
Step 1
Chalk up. Be sure to add chalk to the tip of your cue stick before beginning with your shot. Adding chalk to your cue stick before using it will make the impact much more stable and solid to create the spin that you are working towards.
-
Step 2
Keep the cue stick level. When you are using your cue stick to hit the ball, make sure that it is not on an angle. You want it to be level. This will give you a better spin result on the cue ball.
-
Step 3
Hit below the midline. Hitting the cue ball lower than the center line will create more spin in the cue ball.
-
Step 4
Aim for the center. Although you should hit the cue ball below the midline, you should still aim for the center of the lower part of the cue ball. Hitting it directly in the center of the lower half will create spin for you.
-
Step 5
Hit it hard. Hitting the cue ball with force will create much more spin on the ball than if you lightly hit it with your cue stick.
-
Step 6
Practice. The best way to create spin on your cue ball is to practice everything you have learned. Set up shots for yourself and practice spinning the cue ball.
-
Step 7
Always consider your ball placement before you decide how much spin you want to put on the cue ball. You may need less or more spin depending on how close the cue ball is to the ball you want to hit.
