      Disconnect the gas tank. You don’t want any chemicals to get into the tank and cause trouble later.

      Remove the cooking grates and thoroughly clean them, using spray-on oven cleaner.

      Remove the heat deflector. That is the accordion-folded metal shield between the burner element and the grate. Clean it with the spray-on oven cleaner.

      Carefully wipe off the burner element. Don’t remove it and try not to get anything inside the ports.

      Wipe out the inside bottom of the grill. Use warm soapy water for this and be careful not to get anything on the burner element.

      Clean the inside of the lid with warm soapy water.

      Clean the outside of the grill with warm soapy water.

      Rinse the oven cleaner from the deflector and grates using the garden hose. Then wash them real well with warm soapy water.

      Let everything dry in the sun.

      Replace the deflector and the grates.

      Reattach the gas tank and you are ready to start cooking.

  • Be sure you have access to plenty of water from a garden hose, as well as warm soapy water from the kitchen.
