How to Change the Appearance of Windows Xp

It's your computer so it's time that you personalized it! Changing the appearance of Windows XP lets you make your computer work environment fit your style.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Windows XP
  1. Step 1

    Navigate your mouse pointer to the main tool bar at the bottom of your screen and click on "Start". Once the Start menu pops up, click on "Control Panel".

  2. Step 2

    Double-click on "Display". This will cause a new window to pop up titled "Display Properties".

  3. Step 3

    Click on the "Appearance" tab to bring up the list of appearance options.

  4. Step 4

    Three drop down boxes will allow you to customize the appearance of Windows XP. The "Windows and Buttons" drop down box gives the option to change the style of open windows between Windows XP and Windows Classic style The "Color Scheme" drop down box allows for different color options of open windows, and the "Font Size" box can be used to make fonts larger.

  5. Step 5

    Clicking on the "Advanced" button gives even further color customization options.

Tips & Warnings
  • The "Theme" tab in the Display Properties window also gives the option of changing back from the Windows XP to the Windows Classic theme.
  • Be sure to choose colors and font sizes that make your screen easy on the eyes!
