Creating Superheroes
-
1
Assign a superhuman talent to the superheroes you create. One might be lighting fast on roller skates. Another might be stronger than 10 men combined. Each of the superheroes you create should have its own special talent. This is the starting point for all other areas of character development.
-
2
Give tics to your superheroes. If you look at all the classic superheroes from famous comic books, they all have their own unique set of characteristics by which they are quickly recognizable. A certain laugh might be heard when one of your superheroes enters the action. A particular smell may be noticeable to other characters when your superhero is nearby. Giving your superheroes their own tics will help you develop them into believable characters.

3
Accessorize your characters. Superheroes generally have a costume that makes them instantly recognizable to even casual observers. A red cape, a blue hat or giant black boots are all possibilities. Superheroes who wear normal "street" clothes can have an emblem on all of their clothing that contains their superhero symbol. Give your characters a way to stand out from one another through clothing.
-
4
Create tension amongst your various superheroes. The characters will become much more interesting as they interact with one another. Perhaps one superhero has a longstanding grudge against another because of a love triangle with a female superhero. Maybe two of your superheroes are vying for a particular controlling position in the land where they all live. The possibilities are endless and you'll find the process of exploring them almost addicting.
-
5
Develop histories for each character. The stories behind how superheroes got to be where they are now are fascinating to consider. Tell the story of how your superheroes came into their superhero status. Explain how they got their powers. Include both heroic and tragic backgrounds for various characters to add a bit of dramatic flair.
