Go to your local charity thrift shop. Yes, some designer brands end up here. The wealthy often want to give back, and this is a way to give back with style. Avoid buying too many designer items from the thrift shop. Keep in mind that there are people that actually have to shop here for their only clothes, and you should not hog all the great choices that could be made available to them.

Try out major "mart" stores. Although shopping for fashion alongside the dog food isle may not seem appealing, it may be the solution to your fashion quest.

Organize a fashion exchange with friends. Everybody should bring over all the clothes they no longer want, and you all get to take turns picking from one another's outcast clothes. You are sure to get a lot of really cute things this way. Be careful to not hurt the feelings of friends who may have different size clothes than the rest.

Get out your sewing machine, and modify the clothes that are already in your closet. A boring dress can be spiced up to look glamorous with a little imagination.

Watch several episodes of "Sex and the City." Decide what your favorite look for Carrie is, and try to imitate at least one of her outfits. It will set you in the right frame of mind for finding other stylish clothes.
