If you've ever dreamed of teaching English abroad, it can become a reality for you. Every year, companies are looking for qualified people to teach English in a bevy of countries, including Thailand. By teaching English in Thailand, you get to experience the country and culture on a whole new level.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • College degree
  • Sealed copy of college transcripts
  • Current passport
  • Work visa
  • Passport photos
  1. Step 1

Investigate the various areas of Thailand. The country features big cities as well as remote villages. Assess which type of experience appeals to you most.

  2. Step 2

Choose the location where you wish to teach English in Thailand. If you make a specific request, you can likely be placed in that area.

  3. Step 3

Compile your application materials. You must have a college degree. Your major doesn't matter, as long as you have either a B.A. or B.S. You'll also need a sealed copy of your college transcript.

  4. Step 4

Consider additional training. You do not need to have a teaching certification or TESL (Teaching English as a Second Language) training but these qualifications do garner better jobs. If you have this additional experience, you will likely command a higher starting salary and faster job placement.

  5. Step 5

Search for companies that place you in teaching jobs in Thailand. Often, these companies will handle much of the legwork for you. They will place you in your new teaching job, sponsor your visa, provide you with accommodations, and even facilitate your travel to and from the airport.

  6. Step 6

Apply to the job placement company that you like best. Upon acceptance, send all your information to the company, including your college transcripts, copy of your current passport and all the passport photos they request.

  7. Step 7

Apply for a work permit, once you have your visa. Your job placement company should help you with this process.

Tips & Warnings
  • Ask questions of your job placement company. They will be able to give you tips on your upcoming experience.
  • Almost everything is negotiable. Don't be afraid to negotiate your starting salary as well as your benefits.
  • Pay attention to your visa expiration date. When necessary, be sure to begin the visa renewal process long before its expiration date.

on 3/26/2009 I agree, however never accept a job without first visiting Thailand and visiting the school. Also, never pay any fees to someone requesting a deposit for employment. There are many teaching jobs in Thailand and with a little research on the Internet you'll be on your way. A good place to start is:www.bestofsiam.com

on 10/24/2008 While the use of a teacher placement company is certainly the easier option, the job you will gain will not be as good as one you find yourself. I would recommend the use of an online Thailand teacher jobs site like www.ajarnjobspace.com. Even if you're overseas some employers will still be interested in speaking with you.
