Reuben Sandwich
Reuben Sandwich

The first Reuben sandwich was made by New York restaurateur Arnold Reuben or maybe by Omaha grocer Reuben Kulakofsky. Who knows for sure. What we all know is that the Reuben is one mighty fine tasting sandwich! Here’s a quick way to prepare a Reuben for those on the run.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • 6 slices deli sliced corned beef
  • ½ cup sauerkraut, drained
  • 2 slices rye bread, seeded or unseeded, or marble rye
  • 2 slices Swiss cheese
  • Thousand Island dressing or Kraft Sandwich Spread
  1. Step 1

Place three slices of corned beef on a plate, dollop on the drained sauerkraut, then top with three more slices of corned beef. (You can add more or less slices of corned beef if desired.) Drape a paper towel over the beef and kraut, then microwave on high for 3 minutes.

  2. Step 2

Place two slices of rye bread into the toaster. Toast on a dark setting.

  3. Step 3

When the beef and kraut are warmed, place two slices of Swiss cheese on the top. Microwave on high for an additional minute or until cheese melts.

  4. Step 4

Spread one slice of the toasted rye with Thousand Island dressing or Kraft Sandwich Spread.

  5. Step 5

Assemble the sandwich by placing the slice of rye with no spread on top of the hot cheese, beef and kraut plate. Using another plate (or your hand if you’re brave) flip the almost-a-sandwich upside down.

  6. Step 6

Add the second slice of rye with spread on top and your sandwich is complete. Dine away!!

on 8/4/2008 Gee, I never tried making these at home. It's my favorite sandwich too when I'm willing to splurge on the calories.
