Find a Job Fast

A regular job search can take an average of two months. Due to unexpected life changes, waiting a few months to find a job is unexceptional. We all have bills and people depending on us to make a living. Sometimes a week or less is all we have.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Time to job search full time for a week.
  • Resume.
  • Phone to be contacted at, preferably a cell phone.
  1. Step 1

Keep your expectations to a minimal. Finding a job to start in less then a week can be difficult in professional based jobs. You may find that you need to accept a job out of what your usual career field. Remember you can always work while you are looking for another job. Employers are more apt to hire a applicant if they are currently employed, no matter what field their current job is in.

  2. Step 2

Make 50 copies of your resume. Keep the original copy to make more copies of your resume as needed. It is best to also have a cover letter to give employers. Cover letter usually are personalized for each job you apply for, but in this case you may need to make a generic one. Take time to personalize any cover letters for jobs you have special interest in.

  3. Step 3

Look in the news paper and apply for any jobs that you have interest in. Keep a look out for job ads announcing the job position must be filled immediately.

  4. Step 4

Look in your area for places you would like to work for. Visit the business with your resume in hand and ask if they are hiring. Make sure to dress as if you were going on a interview. Never go into a business for this reason during high traffic times.

  5. Step 5

Visit your community temp agencies. Many people shy away from temp agencies due to they want a full time steady job. Many companies hire temp agencies to find employees to test in temporary positions before they are hired full time. This can be a great way to get your foot in the door. If I was desperate for a job, this would be the first place I would visit. Many agencies can have applicants working the next day.

Tips & Warnings
  • The more time you spend finding a job, the more likely you will get a job.

on 6/5/2008 I agree, a temp agency is the way to go. You can also place a free ad on craigslist if you need something right away. I always say some $ is better than none!
