This article will help take the stress out of planning a baby shower.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Baby Shower Supplies
  • Help from friends/family
  1. Step 1

Start by making a guest list. The mom-to-be or dad-to-be can be very helpful with this step. If it is a surprise for mom-to-be, you can enlist others to help (grandmother-to-be, friends, relatives, etc). Swear them all to secrecy!

  2. Step 2

After your guest list is complete, you need to work on the invitations. You can purchase these at stores like the Dollar Tree, Dollar General, Wal-Mart, or you can even make your own. Make sure you send the invitations out at least three weeks before the shower is to take place. Be sure to include a valid phone number (and/or email address) for guests to RSVP to - you want to know how many people will be there.

  3. Step 3

Decide what games you want to play. Visit baby-shower.com for baby shower game ideas. There are many to choose from.

A favorite is the belly measurement game - everyone has to guess how many squares of toilet paper it will take to wrap around the new mom's belly. The person that is the closest gets a prize.

Also, the clothes pin game is SO fun! Give every guest a clothes pin upon entering the shower. Anyone who says the secret word (usually "baby", or "cute", etc) has to give their clothes pin to the person who catches them saying it. The guest with the most clothes pins at the end wins a prize.

  4. Step 4

Pick your prizes. What prizes do you want to give away? You don't want to spend an arm and a leg, but you don't want to come off as "cheap", either!

  5. Step 5

Decide on the menu you will be serving. What appetizers will you serve? How many are needed? Where will you order them from, or will you prepare them yourself? This is why those RSVPs are important - you have to know how much to prepare. Also, don't forget the cake! You want to order it at least a week ahead of time so it's definitely ready by the day of the shower. You might want to enlist some help from family or friends on running errands before the shower. Picking up and/or preparing all of the food is a big chore, and VERY important part of the shower, so don't skimp and ask for help if you need it.

  6. Step 6

Overall, the plan is just to HAVE FUN with it! Make sure there are PLENTY of games to play - it's better to have too much planned rather than too little. Decorations can be purchased at a Dollar or Discount store for just a couple of bucks. You don't have to go all out on the decorations if your budget is tight. Also, as a centerpiece you can make a diaper cake. Those are awesome and so useful! Remember to ask for help when you need it, and everything will go smoothly! Good luck!
