Step 1
Search for a sabre fencing club near your town. Start the search whatever way is convenient for you, either with your local phone book or an online directory.
-
Step 2
Seek assistance from The United States Fencing Association if you can't easily locate a club or coach nearby. If you're not in the U.S., look for a local organization near you or get information from the International Fencing Federation (see Resources below).
-
Step 3
Contact several centers and arrange class visits. Ask if they have an open house night where others in your area are considering joining a fencing club too. Sometimes it's easier to do something when you aren't the only newbie.
-
Step 4
Observe both the instructor and the students. See if the class offers a good balance for students to both learn the fundamentals and to enjoy themselves.
-
Step 5
Prepare questions to ask the sabre fencing coaches and students. You want to evaluate costs and time involved in club activities and training.
