Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Sabre
  • Fencing mask and safety gear
  • Fencing partner
  1. Step 1

Place your feet in a traditional defensive stance that will allow you to quickly move into a position that allows you to defend the head if attacked.

  2. Step 2

Raise the sabre to eye level. Clearly, during a match you will adjust the level of your sabre based on the height your opponent is attacking at. But for solo practice lift your sword to this level.

  3. Step 3

Face the guard outward. This protects your hand while clashing sabres with the opponent going for your head.

  4. Step 4

Relax your arm so there is flexibility when attacked. Depending on the tactic used by your opponent you can progress into several counter moves. Keeping your arm flexible will give you freedom to move into any position.

  5. Step 5

Cross your face with the blade. This creates a barrier between your opponent and your head.

  6. Step 6

Fence with a partner and have them attack the head. Apply all the above techniques into an effortless upward motion when the attacker approaches. It will be a quick slash and render the opponent's attack useless.
