Biking has taken many forms. It still exists in its original form of pedaling for pleasure, but it has also advanced into using motors, adding more or less wheels, and bike racing. For the hardcore bike racers, any little bit of weight taken off or comfort added is a huge advantage, which is why the seat post is an important part to accessorize. Here's how it's done.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Search for seat posts either on the internet or at your local bike shop. If you are really concerned with getting the top of the line, you should perhaps order the product directly from a manufacturer. This will ensure you are getting the best and lightest seat post.

  2. Step 2

Buy your new seat post. If you are competing in a race, it would be best to buy this seat post a few weeks in advance to both ensure that it has enough time to get to you if you ordered it by mail. This would also ensure you have enough time for step five.

  3. Step 3

Remove your old seat post. If your old seat post is custom or of a good quality, you may want to see about selling it to a bike shop or, for possibly more money, over the Internet at a site such as eBay.

  4. Step 4

Install your new seat post. Adjust the seat to an approximate level at which you are comfortable that you tightly fasten everything down. Failure to do this can result in discomfort and potential injury.

  5. Step 5

Test the level of your seat post by going on a test ride of a few miles. It's important to test it over a long distance to see if there is any potential discomfort after a long period of time. Bring the tool you used to fasten the bike seat down. You may need to stop and make adjustments along the way.
