Instructions
  1. Step 1

Choose the equipment you need. You want a bow, several arrows and a target.

  2. Step 2

Stand properly and hold your bow with one hand. Place the arrow in the bow with your other hand. Put the arrow into the notch of the bow so it rests steady. Judge your distance from the target.

  3. Step 3

Grip the string with the tips or first joints of your string fingers. Pull your arm back as you draw the string with your back muscles. Try to use your back muscles instead of your arm muscles. Release the arrow as you keep your eye on the target.

  4. Step 4

Bend your arrow arm and hold your arm steady. Keep your bow arm straight. Then raise your bow arm up, aim, pull and shoot. Be consistent. Aim and then draw for each shot you take.

  5. Step 5

Learn to use your sights so you will shoot more accurately. Aim at the target, be steady, hold your bow without wavering and shoot. Always aim for the center of the target. Adjust your sight if your shot is off target.

  6. Step 6

Use different kinds of arrows. You will find some arrows easier to use than others. Use wood for beginners, fiberglass for hunters and aluminum for tournaments.
