Pockets are very useful on garment bags. Pockets can be used to store shoes, socks and other smaller items of clothing. Cutting the garment bag pockets is a simple process and the few minutes additional sewing can considerably increase the usefulness of the garment bag.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Measure the general dimensions of the pockets and use a pattern to cut pockets of equal size.

  2. Step 2

Cut out the pockets. Each pocket can be made from either two pieces of fabric or from one single piece folded over to create the entire pocket.

  3. Step 3

Match two pocket pieces with right sides together. Sew a 1/2-inch seam around the pocket. Be sure to leave an opening at the top or the pocket won't be functional.

  4. Step 4

Trim the corners. Be sure to give the finishing threads a tug before trimming off the excess.

  5. Step 5

Finish the edges of the pocket. The pocket's hem reinforces the pocket to keep it from wearing out or tearing through.

  6. Step 6

Turn the pocket inside out. Lay the newly created pocket on the ironing board and press it to smooth out any wrinkles or puckers. The pocket will be sewed onto the garment bag at a later stage.
