Step 1
Lay a coat hanger across the width of the fabric to eyeball the general size of the garment bag's top. The coat hanger needs to fit snugly while allowing room for the garment to hang wrinkle free within the bag.
-
Step 2
Use tailors chalk to mark off a straight line if you feel the need for precision. It is best to measure twice and cut once. Take away the coat hanger, as it was just used for reference.
-
Step 3
Fold over the fabric once the cutting line has been established. Folding the fabric over before cutting ensures a clean even cut that is balanced for the front and the back.
-
Step 4
Cut down the length of the fabric. You should now have a front and back piece which later will be sewn to the rest of the garment bag. The top of the garment bag should be set aside before moving to the next item for cutting.
