How to Cut and Sew Ribbon on Garment Bag

To fully protect clothes, a garment bag needs something like a ribbon or tie to close the opening at the bottom. Sewing a ribbon onto the bottom of a garment bag provides a way to keep clothes stable and if they fall off the hanger, they won't be lost.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Cut four ribbons approximately 1 foot in length. These are used to close the garment bag at the bottom.

  2. Step 2

Pin two of the four ribbons to the bottom edge of the front of the garment bag. Pinning the two ribbons in place is a temporary step before sewing them down. This helps you double check the ribbons' alignment with the bottom hem of the garment bag.

  3. Step 3

Turn the edge of the ribbons under to prevent unraveling. This keeps the ribbons neat and tidy and prevent them from becoming entangled with the clothes in the garment bag.

  4. Step 4

Turn the garment bag over and turn the edge over so that the back side is facing up and pin down the two ribbons on this side. These ribbons will be sewn down later. The two ribbons should follow the same line as the bottom hem.

  5. Step 5

Make sure the ribbons are attached in a manner that won't allow them to slip back inside the hem and get lost. You may want to tie a knot in the end of the ribbons before sewing them to the garment bag. These four ribbons, two in front and two in back, will be used to tie the garment bag closed.
