Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  1. Step 1

Measure the window and add 1/2 inch for a seam allowance. Visit a fabric store and select material to compliment the decor. Purchase fabric and matching thread. Use the same measurements to purchase the board for the valance.

  2. Step 2

Position the fabric face down on a large flat working surface. Center the valance board on the fabric so that the material's pattern appears as desired on the opposite side of the board.

  3. Step 3

Wrap the board with the fabric like gift wrapping a package. Tuck in excess material at the corners. Meet the edges of the fabric at the back or inside of the board. Make sure the seams aren't visible from the front once the valance is hung.

  4. Step 4

Pull the fabric taut and secure tightly to the board using staples and a staple gun. Work from one end to the other.

  5. Step 5

Hammer in any staples that did not completely sink into the wooden board.

Tips & Warnings
  • If having trouble keeping the fabric in place while stapling, use a hot glue gun to secure the wrapped edges onto one end of the valance board while stapling the fabric at the other end.
