There is nothing better than the smell of a hot breakfast on a Sunday morning. Pancakes, hash browns, bacon and omelettes are the things "happiness" are made of. But if you've ever tried to actually cook the eggs for an omelette, you know that it can be a little bit tricky. Here are some tips on how to cook eggs for an omelette.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Eggs
  • Salt
  • Pepper
  • Bowl
  • Whisk
  • Skillet
  • Non-stick spray
  • Spatula or tongs
  1. Step 1

Crack your eggs into a bowl. Remember to remove any shell pieces with a spoon. There is nothing more unpleasant than a crunchy omelette.

  2. Step 2

Add salt and pepper to taste. Usually a pinch of each is more than plenty, unless you're cooking for the masses.

  3. Step 3

Take a quick time out from your eggs to pre-heat the skillet on the stove. You want your skillet to be warm but not hot when the eggs hit the pan. So pre-heating after you've already cracked the eggs for the omelette is a good idea. Don't forget the non-stick spray.

  4. Step 4

Whip the eggs with your whisk until the yolks are broken and the seasonings are well mixed. Some people like to add milk, cream or water to their mixture at this point. Some people feel it makes the eggs "fluffier" as they cook.

  5. Step 5

Pour your egg mixture into the skillet and allow it to fill the pan. The eggs will naturally fill the skillet to the edges. Your eggs should be over a medium-high flame.

  6. Step 6

Test the eggs by picking the skillet up and sliding it back and forth a bit. If the eggs are sliding and the eggs seemed fairly well gelled on the top, you are nearing a flip. Add all other ingredients to the mixture now. This is everything from basil to bacon to sausage to peppers to whatever your little heart desires.

  7. Step 7

Flip the omelette using your spatula or tongs. Some people flip the omelette completely over, while others fold it in half with tongs, let it rest a minute and then flip to the other side so that both sides get proper cooking.

  8. Step 8

    Serve hot and enjoy.

Tips & Warnings
  • For a healthy variation of this recipe, use egg whites instead of whole eggs. Grating just a touch of cheese into the omelette will replace the rich taste you miss while cutting way down on the calories.
