After teasing your hair, it's important to take the right steps to make sure it doesn't simply fall flat again. By using a specific kind of brush and a light touch, you can ensure that the hard work you did to create volume in your hair doesn't fall flat within minutes.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Natural bristle brush
  • Hairspray
  1. Step 1

Use a natural bristle brush to encourage the hair to be more smooth and shiny. Gently brush just the top layer of hair that has been back brushed to set the teased hair.

  2. Step 2

Smooth only the top layer to create the illusion of natural fullness and volume. Although the hair has been teased, you don't want it to look ratted.

  3. Step 3

Brush hair in the direction that it will eventually be pinned if you're creating an updo. This will create even more volume and make the updo process go faster.

  4. Step 4

Spray the smoothed top layer with hair spray once it's as smooth as you want it to be. This will set the smooth layer in place.

  5. Step 5

Level out any flyaways with your hand immediately after spraying. There is no better tool for this job than your hand because it requires a very light touch. Move your hand in the direction that you want the hair to fall.

Tips & Warnings
  • Add more lift to the teased section of hair after smoothing by sliding the end of a tail comb in underneath the section of hair and lifting gently. Spray the hair to set it.
  • Don't completely brush through all of the teased hair because this will cause the volume created to disappear, and your hair will lay flat against your head again.
